Eugène Piot (1812–1890) combined his work as a journalist with his passion for collecting. He wrote *Le Cabinet de l’amateur* and traveled through Spain with Gautier with the aim of publishing various articles about certain places in Spain. Together, they took several daguerreotypes of the Alcázar Gardens, the Alhambra in Granada, and El Escorial.
