Alexander Soler i March

Barcelona (Spain)

Description

Alexander Soler i March (1873-1949) was an architect and disciple of Lluis Domènech i Montaner. His architectural work can be found in Manresa, his native town, as well as in Valencia, Barcelona, Granollers and Terrassa. In the mid-1920s he settled in Barcelona, the great centre of the antique collecting and antiques trade in those years. He held the chair of Knowledge of Materials at the Barcelona School of Architecture and chaired the Association of Architects of Catalonia. He was also a member of the Barcelona Museums Board. Like other Catalan intellectuals of the time, he maintained close ties with the excursionist societies, the Círculo Artístico de Barcelona and the society of Friends of the Museum of Catalonia. He built up an interesting artistic collection, which included, for example, several remains of the rich roofs of Curiel de Duero (Valladolid).
