Description

Franck McLean (1837-1903) was born in Belfast. He followed his father's career and, after studying at Westminster School and Trinity College, became an engineer. He later married Ellen Greg, daughter of John Greg, with whom he moved to London for a period of time. In the course of time he built up a large collection of ancient coins, manuscripts, rare books, ivories, etc (Dalton, 1912). Before his death he donated a large part of his collection to the Fitzwilliam Museum (James, 1912).
