The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon is located in a part of the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy. The museum's collections were formed thanks to the dukes themselves, to the drawing school of Devosges and to the confiscations of pieces during the French Revolution. The desire to make the pieces known led the museum to open its doors in 1799. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the institution's holdings increased due to an ambitious acquisition policy.
