Description

Manuel de Fonseca y Zúñiga, VI Count of Monterrey, founded the church of La Purísima, known as the Agustinas de Monterrey, in 1636. Different artists were involved in its construction: Bartolomeo Picchiatti designed the layout; Cosimo Fanzago was in charge of the pulpit, the doors and the sepulchers; José de Ribera painted the Immaculate Conception for the main altarpiece and Giovanni Lanfranco was responsible for the panels of Saint Nicholas of Tolentino and the Annunciation.
