Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art, Indiana University

Bloomington (United States)

Description

The Indiana University Museum of Art opened in 1941. Henry Radford Hope became the first director of the institution, whose objective was to bring art to the students of the university. The museum's permanent collection was formed thanks to the donations of some prominent collectors, as well as the funds that the institution dedicated to the acquisition of pieces. In the 1970s it was decided to create a new building to house the collection, opening to the public in 1982. Sidney and Lois Eskenazi donated 15 million euros to the museum in 2016, which helped renovate the facilities and led to its renaming as the Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Museum of Art at Indiana University.
