The Burgos mint was inaugurated by Alfonso VIII (1155-1214) and was one of the most prolific in Castile (Cuenca, La Coruña, Granada, Segovia, Seville, and Toledo). It enjoyed its heyday during the 15th and 16th centuries, which coincided with the development of the city. It was located on Calle de San Juan, near the Condestable Palace, but far from the town hall and the cathedral (Cámara Fernández and Mañeru López, 1998). Doblas, escudos, excelentes, reales, seisenes, óbolos, etc. were minted. The letter "B" identified Burgos as the place where the coins were produced.
