Although Yale University was founded in 1701, it wasn’t until 1832 that the Yale University Art Gallery opened, thanks to a donation from John Trumbull. He was the son of Governor Jonathan Trumbull and worked as an architect and painter, in addition to being an avid collector. The museum consists of buildings from different eras and styles, one of the most famous being the one designed by Louis Kahn in 1953.
