Description

The former Convent of La Trinidad (Burgos) was located near what is now Calle Trinidad, close to Doctor Vara Park. It was founded in the 13th century by the Trinitarian Order; however, over time it underwent numerous transformations. The first Count of Castañeda, Garcí IV Fernández Manrique de Lara, and his wife, Aldonza de Castilla, sponsored the construction of the convent and endowed it with sumptuous decorations (Ávila, 1961). During the War of Independence, it was ransacked and plundered; General Darmagnac was responsible for the sale of the paintings (Estella, 1979; Antigüedad del Castillo, 1989). In 1836, following the confiscation of church property, the friars abandoned the convent. Today, only the remains of the Chapel of Saint Ildefonso survive.
