Description

Fernán Álvarez de Toledo (1390-1464) was born into a noble Castilian family. Throughout his youth he acted politically alongside his uncle, the bishop of Toledo, supporting Constable Álvaro de Luna against the princes of Aragón. However, after the battle of Olmedo in 1445, Fernán changed sides and joined the enemies of the constable. He was imprisoned several times, especially after falling out with the future Henry IV. During his old age he focused on recovering confiscated family property.
