Władysław Czartoryski

Paris (France)

Description

Wladyslaw Czartoryski (1828-1894) was born in Warsaw. His parents were princes Adam Jerzy Czartoryski and Ana Zofia Sapieha. Wladyslaw married twice: the first time to Maria Amparo Munoz, daughter of Queen Maria Christina, in 1855; his second marriage was to Margaret Adelaide of Orleans in 1872. Czartoryski acted as diplomatic agent in England, Turkey, Sweden and Italy. He was a great collector and frequented the auction houses in Paris. In 1874 he founded a museum in Krakow to house both his own collection and that which he had inherited from Izabela Czartoryski (Gorzelany, 2015).
