Description

Arthur William Sidney Herrington (1891–1970) was born in Coddenham, England. When he was five years old, his family decided to emigrate to the United States and settled in Madison, New Jersey. Herrington had a keen interest in the automotive world and graduated from the Stevens Institute of Technology. After finishing his studies, he began working at Harley-Davidson , but had to leave due to World War I. When the war ended, Herrington returned to the automotive industry, first at Coleman Motors Company and later as an entrepreneur. He was responsible for designing various truck models, as well as the jeep. Together with his wife, Nell C. Herrington, he acquired numerous works of art, building a collection in Indiana of European art, Oriental decorative arts, and American art.
