The Detroit Institute of Art was founded in 1885 and its original location was on Jefferson Avenue. However, the museum became too small and in 1927 they moved to its current location on Woodward Avenue. Among the works from Castilla y León housed in the institution are the Coronación de Espinasby Juan de Flandes and a fragment of the stalls of Santa Clara de Astudillo (Palencia).
