Description

The Morgan Library and Museum has its origins in the private collection of John Pierpont Morgan, its principal benefactor. Between 1902-1906 the building at 36 Madison Avenue was constructed by Charles McKim. After John Pierpont Morgan's death, his son Jack Pierpont Morgan took over to continue the work his father had begun. Today The Morgan Library and Museum houses numerous pieces of Spanish provenance. Among the works that were originally in Castilla y León are the Morgan Beatus from the Monastery of San Salvador de Tábara (Zamora) and a folio from the Royal Monastery of Santo Tomás de Ávila.
